*”J&K Bureaucrat Behind Bars: CEO of Verinag Development Authority Sent to Jail for Defying Court Orders”*
Srinagar, October 10, NSR : In a significant development, a senior JKAS officer, M. Rouf Rehman, CEO of Verinag Development Authority, has been taken into judicial custody by Jammu and Kashmir Police for defying court orders in South Kashmir.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Anantnag, had directed the police to take Rehman into custody following his failure to comply with a court order related to a case filed by Hamidullah Bawani, a resident of Mir Maidan, Doru.
According to the court, Rehman had not even bothered to reply to the show-cause notice issued by the court, which implies that he had no cause to show as to why he should not be arrested and detained in a civil prison.
The court had earlier ordered the attachment of the Treasury account operated by the Verinag Development Authority and issued a bailable warrant of arrest against Rehman for ₹50,000.
Rehman will remain in judicial custody until October 15, 2025, when the court will review the case via video conferencing. The police took custody of Rehman and escorted him to a local hospital for a medical examination before lodging him in jail.
This development highlights the importance of complying with court orders and fulfilling official responsibilities. The court’s decision demonstrates that no one is above the law, and those who defy court orders will face consequences.
