Srinagar, Feb 24, NSR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has extended his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign against obesity, calling it a crucial step towards addressing lifestyle-related health issues.
Taking to his X handle on Monday, Abdullah wrote, “I’m very happy to join the campaign against obesity launched by PM @narendramodiji.” He emphasized the serious health risks associated with obesity, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, breathing problems, and mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
As part of the initiative, the chief minister nominated 10 prominent personalities to join the campaign and urged them to further nominate 10 others, ensuring wider participation. The list includes Biocon MD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, industrialist Sajjan Jindal, actor Deepika Padukone, former tennis player Sania Mirza, ex-cricketer Irfan Pathan, MP Supriya Sule, and former Wushu player Kuldeep Handoo.
The campaign gained momentum after PM Modi, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday, urged people to reduce their oil intake by 10 percent and challenge others to do the same. Abdullah’s participation is seen as an effort to amplify the message and encourage healthier lifestyles across the country.
