MMU Passes resolution against the waqf bill:- Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, April 21:
Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Umar Farooq on Monday said that Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), has passed a resolution opposing the Waqf Bill, expressing serious concerns over its implications for Muslim religious institutions and endowments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to reporters as per Kashmir Bulletin, after a condolence meet at residence of Syed Baqir shb in Budgam, the Mirwaiz stated that the resolution reflects the deep apprehensions felt by the Muslim community regarding the increasing interference in religious matters through administrative and legislative moves.

“The Waqf properties are religious endowments donated by people for specific Islamic purposes, and they should be managed by the community in accordance with Islamic principles,” the Mirwaiz said.

“Interference by government agencies undermines the sanctity and independence of these institutions.”

He said that there shouldn’t be interference in any religion and when we don’t want to be members of boards of other religions then why only muslims are being targeted.

He stressed that the Waqf Bill must be revisited and that community consultation is essential in matters of religious significance.

Expressing hope in the judiciary, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “We hope the Supreme Court of India will take cognizance of the concerns raised and protect the rights of the Muslim community. Justice must prevail for all citizens irrespective of religion.”

He said that Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema is with the All India Muslim Personal law Board.

The Mirwaiz also urged all sections of society to remain united in their stand for preserving religious and cultural autonomy.
