Srinagar, May 22, CNS: Former Deputy Mayor of Srinagar, Sheikh Imran, has called for the immediate release of jailed separatist leaders, urging the government to adopt a path of dialogue instead of prolonged incarceration.
Imran said, “Talk, not jail — release Engineer Rashid, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan, Sarjan Barkati, Yaseen Malik, Shahid-ul-Islam, and others.” He questioned the selective engagement policy, stating, “If dialogue worked with their fellow torchbearers of separatism, why not with them?”
Sheikh Imran, known for his vocal stance on political reconciliation in Kashmir, said the time had come to shift from retribution to resolution. “It’s time to embrace a new path, of peace, peace, and peace,” he added.
Several leaders, including Engineer Rashid and Yaseen Malik, remain in custody under charges related to militancy funding and separatist activities. (CNS)
