Srinagar, Mar 19, A Jammu court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Mehraj Malik, the sitting MLA from Doda and an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, in connection with a defamation case filed by former minister G.M. Saroori.
The Special Excise Mobile Magistrate in Janipora, Jammu, has directed the police to arrest Malik and ensure his appearance before the court on May 14, 2025. The case, registered at Gandoh Police Station, falls under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with defamation.
Saroori has accused Malik of making false statements that allegedly harmed his reputation. The court’s order reinforces the legal framework under IPC provisions that define defamation and its exceptions.
Following the directive, the police are now required to take action and present Malik before the court on the scheduled date. (CNS)
