*”Batamalo Wine Shop Sealed Amid Public Resentment and Protests”*

Srinagar, July 04,NSR:

The government has formally sealed a wine shop in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar, which was temporarily relocated from Pantha Chowk due to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra arrangements. The decision comes after days of growing unease and protests from local traders and residents.

The relocation of the wine shop had sparked wide-scale disapproval from civil society groups and religious quarters, with prominent religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq criticizing the authorities for disregarding the cultural and religious ethos of the area.

The local shopkeepers and residents had staged demonstrations against the establishment of a liquor outlet in the densely populated and religiously sensitive neighbourhood. In response to the rising opposition, the government has acknowledged the "deep emotional and religious sensitivity” of the issue and taken action to seal the shop.

The decision is seen as a response to the public outcry and a nod to the cultural and religious sentiments of the local community.
